Description
The Douglas County Sewer Improvement District's engineer Rob Anderson (RO Anderson) will discuss and answer questions about the project to complete a new reservoir site for District No. 1. District No. 1 serves the residents and businesses within the Douglas County portion of the Lake Tahoe Basin - from Stateline to Glenbrook. Mandates in the late 1960s required all Lake Tahoe Basin sewer districts to pump reclaimed water out of the Tahoe Basin. The water from these districts is used in the surrounding valleys for agricultural irrigation and wetland enhancement, recharging nutrients and groundwater, especially during periods of drought. A new reservoir is needed for effluent.
Why does this matter to you? This impacts you as a business owner and as a resident! A new reservoir will maintain affordable sewer and water rates for customers and retains local tax dollars from the reservoir among other benefits. Visit this website for more information about the project.
The Tahoe Chamber Government Affairs Committee supports the creation of a new reservoir because it meets several tenants of Tahoe Future: A South Shore Community Vision 2020 including Sustainability and Infrastructure. Individuals are encouraged to attend this meeting, as well as the Douglas County Planning Commission meeting on October 13.
