Measure F will generate 55 million in bond funds to be matched with funds from Sacramento dollar for dollar thereby doubling our local investment. Leveraging funds in this manner is prudent and expands the benefits to our community. Immediate return on this investment will be evident in the construction trades while longer term return on investment will be seen in new and improved programming keeping pace with other higher educational institutions, a more qualified workforce that in turn improves profitability of businesses and higher home property values. The Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the City of South Lake Tahoe, is offering a Basics of Budgeting & Bookkeeping workshop for business owners series on September 24th and October 1 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The bookkeeping portion of the workshop includes topics such as the role bookkeeping plays in running a business, the basic accounting equation, the duality of accounting, the Chart of Account, types of accounts and financial statements. Topics for the budgeting portion of the workshop include budgeting for start-up costs, capital investment needs and future operations, pricing strategies, seasonality scenarios, sales projections and ''what-if'' scenarios using projected income statements, statements of cash flows and balance sheets. The workshop also discusses potential legal concerns and what legal structure is appropriate for a business. The Business Summit will be held on September 30th from 11:30am - 1:00pm facilitated by the Deputy Sector Navigator (DSN), Small Business Program. The DSN program is a California Community Colleges Doing What Matters program in partnership with TahoeChamber. The Business Summit is geared towards business owners/employers. Our focus is to engage in a discussion with employers to identify skills gaps employees', high school and/or community college graduates, possess when they enter into the workplace. Our goal is to share our findings with academia in an attempt to align curricula to eliminate skills gaps better preparing students for the workforce.
